As you start your journey along the Scouting path toward the highest award for the Scout Section, you need to know there are three major signposts. The first is the PIONEER Badge. The Pioneer Target Badges are designed to be achieved by undertaking new experiences, and participating in practical and adventurous activities.

To gain the Pioneer Badge, you must complete the two compulsory targets, Campcraft and Citizenship, and one from the six elective Pioneer Targets. To gain the Pioneer Cord you must complete one Patrol Activity plus two Proficiency Badges.

This can be achieved through your participation with your Patrol or with other Scouts, and assistance from your Patrol Leader. Your Patrol Leader or Assistant Patrol Leader have an important role in assisting you to plan and understand the Award Scheme, and most importantly, to teach and test you on each component of the Pioneer Target Badges.

The rest of this Pioneer section sets out the requirements for each Pioneer Target Badge. You will note that they are displayed so that you can see your progress. For additional details of the requirements you should refer to Guidelines for Scout Leaders and the Scout Award Scheme. You also need to keep a record of each test as you pass it.
