Jason LeGuier

SMOCKY

Venturer Leader

Jason is a Senior Manager at an IT company, looking after 18 people in our Professional Services department. We do large and small projects for a range of customers around Australia.

Jason got involved in Scouting because he loves camping and the outdoors and was keen to get his children involved in activities that would get them outdoors. Scouting also teaches them a lot of life skills such as teamwork, compromise, self-reliance, initiative, conflict resolution as well as how to simply cook and look after themselves. Jason really enjoys working with the Venturer age group (14-18) as they are such confident, intelligent young adults by that stage and he really enjoys helping them develop their confidence and leadership skills. It's amazing how capable they are and this type of "mentoring" leadership suits his personality.  His own career has helped him develop strong group management and team building skills and he thinks these are very valuable to the Venturer age group. They will soon be in the work force and he enjoys challenging the way they think and helping them develop.  He also has a well-developed set of bush skills from years of camping and outdoor activities.

Jason was both a cub and a scout, leaving scouts to pursue other things at about 13 years old. He has lots of fond memories of his time in scouts as a child.

Jason says; I enjoys spending time with my family, photography is probably my main passion, but I enjoy exploring by 4WD, travelling to other places and appreciating this wonderful world we live in.

Hobbies & interests include - Definitely AFL (North Melbourne), but I also enjoy Cricket. Any sport is good at an elite level.  History and Psychology are becoming interests as well. Understanding where we have come from and why we behave the way we do. Perhaps that's normal as we get older. 😀

My advise to Parents - Don't underestimate how much your children learn in Cubs, Scouts and Venturers!!! It's not all about knots and campfires. Particularly in their teen years, Venturers can be a safe, supportive place to get away from the pressures of study. I get to see another side of them and they are bright, well adjusted, well balanced teenagers that are better prepared for life after school than most.
