We are a hiking Troop and as such we have at least one overnight hike per term. Here are some links that we think will be helpful. When shopping for your Cub, Scout or Venturer ask if they offer a discount!

Things that you should keep an eye out for are the following;

  • 65 litre hiking pack. A good Hiking pack is adjustable and if looked after, will last your Scout a lifetime
  • Lite-weight Hiking tent (2kg or less – two man maximum). Again, this piece of equipment should last a lifetime if looked after.
  • Lite-weight Sleeping Bag & Inner Sheet Sleeping Bag (an Inner Sheet can add up to 5 degrees warmth). An Inner Sheet Sleeping Bag will protect the Sleeping Bag so it should last many years too.
  • Lite-weight mattress (start with a foam roll & as your Scout gets bigger, you can think about a self inflating bed roll).
  • Lite-weight chair or three legged Stool
  • Pillow (blow up) or your Scout could make one by stuffing a jumper into the sleeping bag cover.
  • Thermal Clothing
  • Stove/Cooking equipment
  • Plate, cup & Cutlery

Remember that your Scout, should only be carrying 20% of their body weight so this isn’t much when they’re of slight build.
